*BSD compatibility - request for improved collaboration

I regularly read FreeBSD's CVS logs and just now stumbled over the
following entry:

> Log:
> Luke Mewburn has indicated that they (NetBSD) are not interested
> in keeping the scripts under rc.d in sync with us. So, begin removal
> of NetBSD specific stuff (which made our scripts more complicated
> than necessary), starting with the NetBSD KEYWORD.

I like the *BSDs and want to see them flourish, and in my opinion
they could prosper even more by maintaining as high a degree of
compatibility as possible.

[Sometimes I am dreaming of a unified CVS repository, with simple
Makefile knobs selecting which of the *BSD flavors gets built. :-)
For standard utilities, this would triple the amount of productive
work going into improvements rather than merges. And dreaming on,
at some date there might even be a microkernel based OS alongside
the others, and I just say 'make PERSONALITY=LitesBSD world'. I am
dreaming that this could have prevented all attempts to build such
a system from failing. Just some giving in is necessary, agreeing
on not-so-terribly-important details. Oh well, I guess I got carried
away.]

So I ask the following: Instead of writing a log message like the
above, please both parties revert the change and try to keep in sync!

Regards,

Martin
