I tried the 1.6.2 vaxcd.iso, boot off the CD, and it gets stuck
just after the "root file system type: nfs" message.
There is somewhere on Google a post from someone netbooting
1.6.2 with exactly the same problem, but 1.6.1 works.
I tried CD booting 1.6.1 and it works and is now installing.
Besides my problems transferring 1.6.2 to CD, it seems that
it really does have problems booting on a VS3100-30.
