You will need either using xdm(1) or a wrapper to start XFree86
as a non-privileged user. Turning on the set-uid bit on the
XFree86 binary is a (not recommended) workaround that should work.
I agree with Joel, you should check the shell configuration files
if binaries are not in your current PATH too.
