The NetBSD 1.6.2 installer has some known issues. I had same problems
when this version of NetBSD was released. Installing NetBSD 1.6.2 is
a very hard task.

Can I ask you to wait some days until NetBSD 2.0 is available?

There are ISO images of NetBSD 2.0 RC5 available now. Perhaps you want
to try this release candidate.

NetBSD 2.0 has a lot of nice improvements in the installer. It is much
cleaner (really important when making a lot of filesystems in the NetBSD
partition!), kernel selection has been improved a lot, boot blocks support
any serial port now, it supports setting up /tmp as a mfs, and it does
not core dumps (I think!).

I had no problems with it. I think that it has been greatly improved.

Best regards,
Igor.
