bug-tracking systems members share a lot of information. Some of the
patches I submitted were immediately send to the developers of the
tools.
I hardly imagine how a patch can be useful if it is not included in
the main source tree of the broken tool... what happens if the tool
is upgraded? Must the fix be applied again to the source code?
Perhaps the upgrade breaks the patch!
Sharing fixes with the tool developers is the only way to improve tools.
Of course, if licensing terms or other issues[*] make it impossible
the patch cannot be shared. But I hope it is an exceptional issue.
[*] sometimes patches are highly specialized changes that are not
of general interest for the tool users.
