The group needs to be secondary, not primary (ie the user needs to be
listed in the wheel group line in /etc/groups) for su root to work.

group with gid 0, named wheel. su checks for secondary membership of
that group for su'ing to root (==user with uid 0).

Just like any other program. You need to install the games distribution,
though. The default only has the dm and links to it.

I don't see what you're getting at here.

Read up on sendmail and see that it is a different beast from gmail.
You still need sendmail (or another MTA) for the system to work properly.
