    Yes, it worked! Thanks a lot for helping me with this problem.
    Indeed, the fix is obviously a *right one*. I do not doubt it,
    it is very easy to understand; a fine and clean fix.

    After changing /etc/ttys as you described all is running fine. But
    as a general workaround... can I suggest removing the xconsole(1)
    entry in the xdm configuration files? It will be a more general
    fix: platforms without X11 support will continue receiving kernel
    messages in the text console; machines with X11 support will not
    require changes in the configuration files when xdm(1) is enabled.
