OK, sorry for the implicit reproach.
I've found with some googling that there is openafs for OpenBSD, see
this deadly.org page:

Based on the discussion there I get the impression that setting it up is
not a 'no-brainer'.

As to the special chars functionality, after a swift scan I haven't
found any remarks on the OpenAFS-site on this issue(www.openafs.org),
but maybe you know more, since you were specifically asking for ASF support.
