spin down idle scsi disk?

Is there a way to spin down an idle scsi disk? I have one running that's
intended to be a spare for a RAIDframe RAID array, and it seems as if
spinning it down will increase the likelihood that it lasts longer than
the drives it's supposed to spare for...

Thanks,
chris
