quick question about adding users

hello all,

I have recently installed OBSD 3.4 for the first time. I have added myself
as a user, and added myself (by hand) to /etc/group (wheel:*:0:root,david)
so i can su...
The thing is, the system is still not letting me login as su, i keep getting
complaints about ...
'bad SU david to root on ../.."

any advice?
