I just installed 3.4 on a new machine with a Tyan Tiger MPX board and
a single Athlon XP CPU. I had all sorts of problems with the machine
hanging during boot, "stray interrupt 7" errors and the like. Through
a voodoo ritual of enabling and disabling things in the BIOS,
switching serial ports around (I'm using a serial console), disabling
npx in the kernel config, and lots of rebooting I've managed to get it
to boot. Dmesg follows. The next problem is that I get all sorts of
errors from the vi recover script during boot:
boot> boot -c
booting hd0a:/bsd: 4464500+838332 [58+204240+181750]=0x56cfd0

Once I log in, I find that ps segfaults:
# ps -u root
USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TT STAT STARTED TIME
COMMAND
ps: nlist: can't find following symbols: _fscale _ccpu _physmem
_maxslp
Memory fault (core dumped)
So does dd:
# dd
<Ctrl-d>
Memory fault (core dumped)
I disabled ECC and ran memtest86 for 22 hours, and the memory is fine.
Also I checked the md5 sum of /bsd and it matches the distribution,
so the kernel image is not corrupted. Any help would be appreciated,
and let me know if more information is needed.
Thanks
