In the configuration I described there most certainly is relevance in the
mount point. It was configured in /etc/fstab.
If you wish to make your life difficult then you can remove the cdrom
entry from /etc/fstab and do it every time by typing in the device and all
mount options.
My mount command was complete and you chose to tell us that you were
attempting to mount the device directly on a *device*!
