how can I get samba and their tools to add users with local SAM
authentication (pdbedit, smbpasswd)? Only the root user is doing it
now, but I have another login in the wheel group. I've even put SETUID
on pdbedit and smbpasswd, and it didn't solve this issue.
I'd like to stay away from DB backends like SQL or LDAP if possible.

It's not entirely clear to me what you want to do, and in what respect
it doesn't work (or at least fails to do what you want it to do). I'm no
SAMBA experts, but if there are any, they'll be much more likely to be
able to help you if you post the above information and the relevant
configuration files (smb.conf at least, but maybe you have an
interesting network setup?).

Re: Need help getting Samba setup ... I run smbd.exe it stops immediately with this in the log file... Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1992-2007 ... You also need a user root in your master.passwd, ...smbpasswd -a nobody ... (comp.os.os2.networking.server)
