I haven't got a clue about Hotmail. Do they support POP3 or
IMAP? If they do, you could fetch the mail with fetchmail,
maybe even from a cron job running every half hour or so. If
they don't, consider switching to another service that do.
fetchmail is available for most Unices. Check your distribution
CDs, or get it from
http://catb.org/~esr/fetchmail/
