One of the reasons I dropped Windoze is that I discovered that it was
accessing the Internet all the time without even telling me. One of the
things it was doing was setting the clock.

Following Michael H's clues, here's what I ended up doing:

(as root)

#date --set='-1 hours'

then

#hwclock --systohc #to sychronize the hardware clock with the system clock.

When I re-booted this morning, everything was peachy dandy.

But I have also discovered that the reason I have to do this manually is
that I ripped out most of the locales program.

Don't mind doing this twice a year at all. Could make it a cronjob, I
suppose....
