My company have installed some new software which is Unix-based.
We are used to being able to interrogate our databases either via SQL or via
Access and an ODBC link.
We are now told that this isn't possible (which I don't believe) because the
software is Unix-based but that the company are considering buying something
called "Cognos" which, apparently, is frightfully expensive but will do
everything we want.
I've Googled on "Cognos" but I'm not even sure what I'm looking for. There
are lots of references to "business intelligence solutions" which I suspect
are fairly close.
Anybody got any ideas what Cognos is, what it can do, if it's any good, any
alternatives etc etc?
Many thanks.
