The path shouldn't make a difference. However, make sure which files are
actually used: What is the result of 'kpsewhich mtsyn.pfb' on both
machines? Use the debug option of dvips to determin the included file.
Also, as I said before, make sure that the two files are identical. You
can, eg, check the MD5 check sum of both files with the 'md5sum'
command.
