    So tom is not you, and the superuser "a guy in work" removed tom's files after you where there
    and digging in tom's cache ?

    What is your part of the problem? let tom request a restore.
    Then Tom will learn to set permissions right, and clear/disable the browser cache.
    And you learned that you should not ask the "guy in work" in the future.
    The "guy in work" learned that unix commands just do as expected, and will not run a IQ test before
    executing the command.

    Most likely your machine has no backup system either, so you all got a lesson.
