    Okay; I'll bite.

    Most of us use "unix" to describe one of many Unix-derived OSes,
    some of which you lists above. I am running Debian Linux here,
    and consider it to be a unix OS. As contrasted with a DOS-derived
    OS like Windows...

    (and DOS is actually a poor Unix clone, severely
    damaged by its authors attempt to hide the fact that this is what
    it is, [and laziness: they left out the most important part of
    Unix -- networking!] whereas Linux is an up-front Unix clone)

    ..or Mac or any of the other, more obscure, OSes around.

    The abbreviation "nix" is often used to mean "Unix-derived-OS",
    as you know.
