    I would agree along the same lines. Its either a standard, or a class
    of OSes. Its also more of a model to clone. It was an ancestor, and
    arguably IS an ancestor since it still exists and runs on machines
    (Unix system V on VAXen).

    So although UNIX is an OS, in marketing and economic terms, it WAS an
    OS since its not marketed anymore, only descendents and clones and
    followers of its standard.

    The UNIX OS no longer exists.
