I'm using a Commodore 1702 monitor with my DVD player; the nameplate
on the back says "February 1984". It works beautifully for this
purpose, with excellent contrast between light and dark display regions.
A few years after I got the DVD player, I realized that Commodore's
funky split luma/chroma cable system was in fact the exact same thing as
the modern S-video cable, only with different connectors. One trip to
Radio Shack and a few minutes with the soldering iron, and I had a
working S-video-to-CBM cable. All in all, a very fine monitor, though
it is a heavy beast.
