2) SamsungX : This is set up as "raw" for the purpose of the samba
setup. Successfully prints a Windows 98 test sheet from Win98 client and
nothing else. So far as I know, the client should do all the formatting
and the print server should just print the raw file it gets...
Can it print two consecutive test pages? For example, by selecting the option to print a test page twice?
If the printer is attached to the back of the Windows 98 computer, does printing work from there?
It might be a buggy implementation on Windows '98.
I have had LPR printing working successfully before now (using Hewlett Packard printers).
On Windows '95, this required a third party utility LPR_100.EXE:

I am not sure whether the third party utility is required under Windows '98.
My notes were written for a print server, but a linux server can be used here instead. (I have printed to a unix print server).

Mark.
Thanks for the return post!
Yes, when connected to the print server, the printer did print 2 copies when I changed the settings to 2 copies...
Yes, the printer does work when connected directly to the client machine. I did have to re-enable the disabled parllel port on the client first though.
Strangely, with the printer connected back to the SERVER machine and the UNUSED parallel port on the CLIENT machine now enabled, the printer seems to work reasonably as expected.
Apart from Win98 sometimes displaying spooler errors and then still printing the document, that is... I think that you must be correct in your assumption that this is some kind of buggy implementation in Win98!
I've just dowlnloaded LPR_100.EXE from
http://www.freescosoft.com/home/0.2.7/download/other/lpr_100.exe
Before I decide to run it on the client machine, can you tell me exactly what it is supposed to do? Remember I am a newbie and am entirely making this up as I go along :)
