I powered down the 5.0.5 system to install a DVD-RAM for beta testing
and when I powered back up the scsi diagnostics on the Adaptec 2940U2W
tells me that id 0 returns "not ready", and, naturally, it will not boot.
ID 0 and the new DVD-RAM are on the Fast-scsi II buss and two other
drives are on the LVD buss.
I removed the DVD-RAM, leaving the cable with the scsi id 0, two empty
connectors and the passive termination (all cables and terminations are
Grannite Digital - the LVD has active termination), but id O still
reports "not ready".
Through the usual comedy of errors (if it is a comedy why am I not
laughing) I have some important, but not critical (after all it is just
my time to recreate the files....) files on that drive that are not
backed up.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can try to get the drive
to fire up ?
Failing in that, I would appreciate suggestions for data recovery
services. Any idea how much they charge ?
