Hello,
I am assigned to recover a lost SCO unix root password.
I have wrote the installation image into a floppy disk and booted,
then typed tools in the boot prompt.
When the install program was about some questions I did "F8" and then
broke out to the <Installation> prompt.
I did successfully mount the drive into /mnt/
I then added appropriate environment variables as suggested in:
now my $OPT=/mnt/opt/K/SCO/Unix/5.0.6Ga
I verified the existance of files and pathes w/ the 'echo $OPT/lib/*'
and I got files listed!
so $OPT is okay now.
I checked for $OPT/lib and $OPT/usr/lib which had libprot.so.1 and at
least libc.so.1 respectively.
Now I did: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH PATH
then tried to run 'vi' and I get "Killed"
My PATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH are correct but it seems that the loader is
ignoring the LD_LIBRARY_PATH ?
Is it possible to change the password using these primitive tools I
have? or I must buy the AirBar or similar recovery tools ?
How much chance do I have if I DiskEdit the whole disk and search for
'root:' and try to clear the password like that?
As I read that this alone is not enough and I must also clear what is
in /etc/shadow file and in /tcb/files/auth/r/root (which have
encrypted forms) ...
Please adivse.
Regards,
Elias
