mmdf and EHLO

i use a lot of vsifax at my office and a lot of our client sites.

vsifax's latest release, when sending email, uses SMTP command EHLO

fails on MMDF. MMDF worked find with HELO (which is what the older
vsifax releases used, but they've now changed that and claim it is
an industry standard), but it is not within my control which to
use - its built into the vsifax binaries.

i don't have a sco box with sendmail to test. i tried with exim and
the EHLO sequence works fine - its just plain not implemented in sco's
MMDF.

any known workarounds?

the only things i came up with are to either swap out MTA or point
to an upstream smtp server (which can get messy), neither of which
seems great.

openserver 5.05/6/7 and whatever mmdf ships with it plus a security patches
on some of the older boxes.
