Generally you will have no problem. However, there are some issues
over thermal throttling if you use anything earlier than 3.2v5.0.6
with a fast P4. Yes you can use RAID controllers - let the hardware
do the work - if the card is supported by the OS then it will just
plug in a work.
Let us know the version uname -X and look for the Release line.
