I've got a Super Stuck II Muddle 3300 24 port carcass right here in
the office. Two dead fans, 4 dead ports, and it still limps along.
NWAY negotiation is problematic when faced with a fixed 100baseT half
duplex card (non 10/100). It insists that it's full duplex on power
on, but can be convinced that it's half duplex if the RJ45 jack is
removed and re-inserted. Nice piece of junk which explains why it's
in my office instead of at a customers. However, that should not be a
problem with the EPS2-100, which is 10/100 and allegedly does NWAY
    correctly.

Fine. So plug into the console port in back or telnet in, dive into
the config menu, and convince the port that it's 10baseT half duplex.
That's probably not the problem, but it's fun to tinker with such
    things.

Is that BOTH on the HP 5si and the HP 8000 printers?

I would normally suspect misconfiguration of the printers or
insufficient printer ram to do the job. There should not be anything
that's PCL unique in printing unless your Optio application is sending
PCL garbage that the printers find difficult to digest. In any case,
netcat is not the cause if you can print a text file successfully.
Try printing a PCL document from a Windoze box and see if the print
server is looking at the data. I doubt it but it's worth checking.
However, my current guess(tm) is that the Optio program is sending PCL
    garbage.
