I think VMware fixed something between 4.0 and 4.51. I tried SCO 5.0.6 on
VMWare 4.0 and it did not work. Said something about hard drive controller
not found, (again sorry for being vague, It was a while back and I am not in
front of the machine at the moment). I went to the VMware website and
downloaded the latest version 4.51, and tried again and it worked fine.
There are no tips or tricks, just put in your SCO CD and go through your
normal install. Oh, I did try the install floppy disk first and it didn't
work, install it from the CD. I also had some trouble with the graphical
modes and for a long time could only get the IBM 640x480 selection to work.
Since then I loaded another VM with 5.07 and patched it with maintenance 1.
After this I was able to get the VESA graphic selection to work in the
resolution my Host machine was running. I am not sure if 5.07 fixed this
problem or that I didn't try this resolution in 5.06. In either case, it all
installed fine and works fine, except for a random mouse problem. The
interesting part was setting up the virtual network between the SCO VMware
machine and my windows 2000 host PC so that these two could share files.
This also eventually worked fine. I can post more details if needed.
