If this is just a problem when logging in from you lan, very likely a DNS
problem-- check the contents of /etc/resolv.conf
See if you can ping outside to the internet, when you are experiencing this
slowness
If this is a problem logging in from a dumb terminal-- well, that's another
story, I have no idea on that.
