5.0.7 with MP3/UP3
Waiting on new server from Dell, which will come with IDE cd-rw/dvdrom
(possibly a half-height unit) and DAT (uses one of two full height bays).
They didn't have an option for dvd burner, but will apparently have one
remaining open bay.
Have a relatively new NEC IDE dvd-rw on the old server, which functions well
with backupedge/recoveredge.
Was originally planning to put the DVD burner in the open bay, but would
like to consider using a powered external drive enclosure with a USB 2.0
port (models with the best ratings also generally have firewire ports as
well, not applicable here).
These are for use with IDE dvd burners, and are reported to function well
with WinXP and Mac. I presume that out-of-the-box external optical drives
with USB interfaces use the same technology, and the OS only sees a USB
optical drive.
Will this setup work with mkdev cdrom under 5.0.7, as if this was an
out-of-the-box USB dvd burner?
Thanks,
David P. Lurie
