Hi all,
I need those of you who are old enough ...
I'm running SCO OpenServer 5.0.2c with Advanced Hardware Supplement 5.2.0c
on an Acer Altos 931
This server is running in a small retail store and until recently does not
need to be connected to any lan.
The Intel PRO/100 Lan adapter that is on the server was never
configure/install.
I recently, try to get this server on a lan by doing this:
Using netconfig to add the software driver associated to the Intel adapter.
To be sure to choose the good one from the provided list I extract the model
numbre from the card (668081-004, Intel part number: PILA8460)
I then choose to add Intel (R) PRO/100B PCI;
Relink the kernel when ask, etc. etc.
After a shutdown, I plug the lan cable from the server to a mini HUB (not a
switch) that I normaly use to do testing.
I observed that the HUB's green light associated to the port I use to plug
my server was blinking fast and often, the HUB,s red collision light blinked
also.
I was able to ping the new interface (not the localhost but the newly added
address) of the server locally from that server;
Unfortunatly, the server did not answer any ping from host pluged in the
same HUB;
To be sure I use a driver that correspond to the Intel Lan card, I
downloaded a driver from Intel.
The version of this driver eeE that surelly corespond to my card is stated
by the Intel readme file to have been tested on OpenServer version 5.0.7 and
that is supported on 5.0.5 and 5.0.6 (Yes I know... not for 5.0.2...)
Using custom, I installed it following the Intel instruction, but I got
some errors (that I haven't note word by word, but ...)
Error
This Intel driver required an other piece of software : SCO: link:LINK::
This error message was ended by a note like: "...this MAY not work" So I
decided to try ...
After that,
A second message (not an error message) said that the Network Configuration
Manager 5.0.3c (yes 5.0.3c) will be upgraded
And then these error messages appeared:
/opt/K/Intel/eeE/1.7.11/cntl/packages/pkg.drv: llipathmap not found
/opt/K/Intel/eeE/1.7.11/cntl/packages/pkg.drv: /bin/stzget not found
/usr/spool/cron/crontabs/BAK is the wrong type of file: Type is directory
(d), should be regular file (r).
After these message, custom showed me that the Intel driver was correctly
installed
The rest of the installation planned to use netconfig to add the newly
created driver, but ... now netconfig is not found.
I realised that custom remove netconfig in his attempt to upgrade it.
The lan card still not working and even if I find the good driver for the
card, I will not be able to add it using netconfig.
How can I get back net config ? (The OS CD are not available, but I think
that the Cie that sell it is still in business)
Thanks
Michel
