    You either need to use "smbpasswd -a username" to add the user to
    Samba's password file, or (my preferred route) simply join a Windows
    domain (using the net join command) and set authentication to domain
    instead of user. This way you don't have to maintain passwords on each
    Samba server.

    In either case, you'd find running Samba on a Linux box would improve
    performance quite a bit, and probably have fewer bugs than the cobbled
    version that's used for SCO. (The Samba developers don't want their
    software used on SCO OS' and do not test on the platform for that
    reason).
