I have an HP ML570 4 processor server with the following software:
SCO Symmetrical Multiprocessing (ver 1.1.1Ga)
Stallion EasyServer II TruPort (ver 1.1.1)
hp ProLiant Extended Feature Supplement (ver 5.62a)
OSS642a - Cron supplement (ver 1.0.0)
RS506A: Release Supplement for SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.6
RS506A: Software Manager Supplement (ver rs506a)
The client has experienced intermittant systen freezes with no network
activity nor action on the console. The only solution has been to
power cycle the server. I decided to apply oss657a in an attempt to
solve this problem. I did not remove the compaq efs. After installing
oss657a I was not able to relink the kernel and get the following
message:
undefined first referenced
symbol in file
cevtw_RIB_interface
/var/opt/K/SCO/link/1.1.1Ga/etc/conf/pack.d/casm/Driver.o
cevtw_reg_iml_handler
/var/opt/K/SCO/link/1.1.1Ga/etc/conf/pack.d/casm/Driver.o
i386ld fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to unix
ERROR: Can not link-edit unix
idbuild: idmkunix had errors.
System build failed.
What files did oss657a overwrite and how can I best restore them ?
In addition I have now determined that a more recent Compaq EFS is
available - namely 5.64A.
The output of hwconfig for this server is:

I can get access to root file system backups made prior to the
installtion of oss657a. I also have network access to an identical
machine - same os etc.
Finally this machine is in a data centre to which I have, unless i
travel interstate, only remote access. It looks as if I may need to
upgrade to EFS 5.64A and the compaq documentation states that this must
be done in single user mode and involves removal of network chains
prior to removal of the EFS and installation of the new EFS. I wonder
if the network removal is necessary in this case as the network card is
an intel PRO/100 which is supported in the base operating system ? I
would love to avoid all of this but need some way of combating the
intermittant system freezes.
What should I beware of if I try and remove the EFS supplement ?
Can anyone suggest a path to get this server healthy again ?
All suggestions gratefully received,
Anthony Hall.
