Some more information ...
I wonder if oss657a is completely innocent. This machine was also
periodically shutting down via the ASR subsystem. This has been
disabled in the bios. Would this have caused the kernel relink issue
or is it likely that is pre-existed the oss657a install ?
Regardless can anyone suggest the best next step to get a kernel I can
relink ? Perhaps use the software manager to remove the:
Compaq System Monitor Utility
component of the COMPAQ efs ?
