I tried it yesterday on the current release of MS Virtual PC 2004
with service pack 1 applied. You definitely need to link in the ivga
driver (oss653a) to get a readable console. The wd driver fails to
recognize either the emulated hard disk or the emulated cd drive.
Using the newest wdsupp driver from MP3 and a bootstring of:
boot: defbootstr link="ivga wd" wd.noscan wd.udma=off wd.debug=udma
also fails, but gives some diagnostics from the detection that might
be useful. There are no settings in the Virtual PC's BIOS regarding
the IDE controller (which is supposed to be part of an emulated 440BX
chipset) that are of any use in solving this problem. Interestingly, the
emulated hardware specs for the Virtual PC specifically mention that
the standard floppy disk controller is emulated, but make no mention of any
sort of IDE controller, just the fact that up to 3 hard disks can be emulated
(or actual hard disks referenced).
