    hi all,

currently running os 5.0.6. in the /etc/default/accounts file, there are 2
parameters, min_user_name and max_user_name that i believe control the
minimum and maximum length of allowable login names. mine are currently set
to 3 and 8 respectively. is there a maximum length that i can change the
    max_user_name value to.

i seem to remember that i read somewhere that even tho the value of the
max_user_name could be increased to more than 8, only the first 8 characters
are actually significant. is that correct?

if i change it to say, 25, will this create any problems for me?

the reason i ask is that management wants to change the sco logins to match
the windows network logins, which are first initial lastname.

any help or guidance greatly appreciated.

    tia

    rick
