    So you are getting an X Server but you are not getting a desktop.

    Is scologin enabled? If not, can you enable scologin and login via this

    interface and see if you get a desktop?

    Are you using the default desktop or have you modified the desktop
    that you are using in any way?

    What is the exact startx command you are issuing? You havent been
    playing with
    xinit or a $HOME/.xinitrc have you?
