Plugging the cable into the other channel did the trick. It located the hard
disk by default. According to the documentation I had for the other LSI Logic
controller (the LSI21040), the connector I originally had the drive plugged into
was channel A (I had no diagram for the LSI 21320 - they seemed similiar enough
in appearance).

Should I have been able to get the system to recognize the drive on the other
channel with the proper link command?
