Re: OSR6 & Network Card

Tom:

That did the trick for the Marvell. Your help was
invaluable (I guess that's the reason that you get
the big bucks at Microlite).

My related question that I posted below was:

If I have located the e3H directory (for the 3C905B
network card), how do I add that particular card to
the list shown in netcfg? It's not being auto-recognized,
so how can I add it like the Marvell driver? Also,
where do I find a list that shows me what physical
adapted (3C905B) corresponds to what driver (e3H)?

Thanks again for your help,

Chen Coulter

Your information was extremely helpful. I just have
one question (pardon my ignorance). The link to the
Marvell web site that you gave me allowed me to download
the file "yukonuw.pck.Z". I understand that I can use
zcat to unpack the ".Z" file, but how do I install it
from there using "custom"? The web site does not
appear to give installation instructions.

Thanks again for your help,

I believe you just uncompress yukon.pck, put it in a directory like /tmp,
and run:

pkgadd -d /tmp/yukonuw.pck

The NIC must be enabled in the BIOS first.

When finished, you run "netconfig" and the device should now
be seen.

Hi all!

I'm attempting to install OSR6 for inhouse testing
now that I have a driver that I've been waiting for.
I have installed OSR6 with MP2 on the following
hardware:

Asus P5WD2 motherboard
Intel P4511 2.8GHz cpu 533FSB 1MB L2
Crucial/Micron 512MB DDR2
ASUS N6200TC PCI Express video card
Adaptec 29160 SCSI card
Maxtor Atlas 10K V Ultra 320 73GB hard drive
Sony DW-D26A DVD burner
Sony MPF920 floppy drive
Antec Truepower 2.0 380 power supply

My next step after installing OSR6 and MP2 was
to get the networking going. However, I found
that the OS would not recognize the onboard
Marvell gigabit network controller. So, I
disabled it in the BIOS and installed a
3Com 3C905B network card that I had lying
aroung. The OS still does not recognize it
even though it is on the OSR6 hardware compatibility
list. I have used this same card going back
to OpenServer 5.0.5 without any problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how
I can make this configuration work?

For OpenServer 6 and UnixWare, I'm pretty sure when I've used the
Marvell Yukon I've gotten the drivers from:
http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=115&pId=31

Don't know about the 3Com.
