Subject: backupedge 02.01.04 upgrade to 02.01.05 on OSR507 can clear root's
crontab

Hi,

Just thought I'd get this up here in case somebody else does it and
doesn't notice the problem right away.
System: OSR507 w/ MP3
I just ran the "Check for Update" feature using Microlite's BackupEDGE
(02.01.04), and there was a new update available (02.01.05). I
installed it, and during the install it asks you if you want to
schedule any full backups. I said no, but wanted to verify that my
previously scheduled jobs were still going to work, I ran "crontab
-e"(for root), and found that it was empty.

:(

Fortunately I have good backups and could restore root's crontab.

You do know the r key is right next to the e key right?
Which is why it's not uncommon to find "empty" and "crontab -e" in the same
sentence.

Hahaha...not a bad guess, but fortunately I have a log of my ssh
session that proves I didn't.

Also, I've confirmed the behaviour by reproducing it. I have a copy of
the production server in VMWare, and I actually tried the upgrade there
first. I didn't notice any problems (because I didn't check the
crontab), so I upgraded the production box. It was only after making
sure that my previous cron jobs were still there that I noticed the
problem on the production box, and when I checked on the VMWare copy,
the file had been cleared out as well, and the new timestamp on root's
crontab coincided precisely with the time of upgrade of BackupEDGE.
