Logos,
I agree with everything Brian said, and then some. If you've got
VisionFS correctly installed, and if you're an administrator, you can
browse to the Termlite installation share and install on a PC.
Termlite sucks, but you get what you pay for.
Guys,
I just stumbled on this thread and am confused with all the bad ink
on Termlite.
I find it easy to use and if the client's application runs on the system
console, it usually runs on Termlite.
Sure transparent print does not work but there are better ways to print
to the Windows attached printer.
Yes, if you want to do a screen print, you have to be running with black
letters on a white background or your screen print will have light letters
on a black page (ugly).
Termlite does respond to SCO's setcolor command to set the screen colors
and cursor size:
[ "$TERM" = "ansi" -o "$TERM" = "scoansi" ] && {
setcolor white blue
setcolor -g lt_magenta blue
setcolor -r black cyan
setcolor -c 2 16
exec /bin/ksh
}
Yes those old applications that try to reprogram the functions keys to
emit wyse60 codes for F1 to F12 fail as it is hard (but not impossible)
to reprogram keys F1 through F7.
No there is no SSH for TermLite. But you can use TeraTerm pro with
SSH extensions and forward localhost port 23 to the remote UNIX system
port 23 and login by directing TermLite to connect to localhost.
Handshaking (^S & ^Q) does not work to suspend screen output so you
learn to always pipe through pg or less when you don't know how long
the listing will be.
AlphaCom is a great product. For the price it's a phenomenal bargain.
If you've got a lot of seats the price comes down. He probably should
have mentioned if he worked there (how did you deduce that BTW?) but
that doesn't detract from the vastly superior qualities of the program
esp. when compared to a dog like Termlite.
Termlite has no security (no SSH), won't size the screen properly on an
XP system or allow much formatting control with fonts, won't easily
transparent print, won't dial a modem, won't automatically connect to a
host,
Edit properties on the TermLite shortcut and add after the last character
in the installed default target line:
E:\VISION\TERMLITE\TERMLITE.EXE -host 192.168.111.231
or
E:\VISION\TERMLITE\TERMLITE.EXE -host unix_name if you point your
Windows TCP WINS setting to refer to the UNIX box running Visionfs
etc. etc. etc. But it is free. AlphaCom, among many others,
will do all of those things plus more.
I use AlphaCom daily, and have recommended and installed it for
clients.
And I use Termlite daily to administer my client's systems via
TeraTerm Pro with SSH extensions forwarding localhost port 23
to the remote UNIX server. This is helpful as I ALWAYS
set "PermitRootLogin no" is sshd_config to deny root login via
SSH. But I can login as root over the forwarded connection:
E:\VISION\TERMLITE\TERMLITE.EXE -host localhost
Not to detract from Anzio and many of the other excellent
programs Brian mentioned, it's just the one I prefer today. If money
were no object I would use Reflections from WRQ, but alas.

How totally unhelpful and off topic. Why would I want to pay for
something I know is available for free with my SCO installation? And I
have enough licensing headaches as it is without having to keep track
of any more.
Also, don't you think it's a teensie bit unethical not to state that
you're part of the company that sells that AlphaCom? Poor marketing
technique, that - I wouldn't buy from anyone that shady.

We're running openserver 5, and I would like to plunk down an emu on a
few windows XP desktops. A contractor set up our systems, and he's not
available for a few weeks at least. Can anyone tell me where I can
find a copy of Termlite to download? Pretty please?
Thanks bajillions!

Just go get AlphaCom for $25 per seat and/or a free 30 license.
30-day ?

Yay! Perhaps you can answer my questions then:
1, To use Termlite strictly as an emu, does VisionFS need to be
installed?
2, If no, can you tell me where I can get a copy of Termlite?
I'd be most grateful if you could answer either or both of those
questions!
