Has anyone successfully compiled gcc on Openserver 6?

gcc-4.1.1 compiles until:

There is a port, but I am trying to put together enough people with funds
to pay the person who has done the port. He wants to be compensated for
all the work he has done in getting everything working. Please contact me
off usenet for the details and if you would like to assist in compensating
the deleloper for his efforts.

The port will not be available till the developer has been in his mind
properly compensated.

How does this fit with the GPL?

Shouldn't the developer should either keep the port to himself or make the
source freely available?

Can one charge for a derivative of GPL'd code in this way?

I agree. The developer has a possible contract for it. He has not
provided it to any one yet. But I do feel, all this being based on GPL
SW, the changes should be provided to the originators of the various
packages. I know I have done ports to many packages and all the patches
have been submitted to the maintainers of the packages. Some have choosen
to to add them to their products, but I have met the requirements by
providing them all changes.

The biggest issue with some of the maintainer's is that adding the patches
to their packages aids the SCO group. And they have told me that until
the law suite is over and a clear status is obtained they will in no way
aid the SCO group. I understand their position, but I still think that
assisting customers/consumer's of their packages is in the best interest
of that package regardless of the politics. But it is for each maintainer
to decide what is best for them. I know that if you search for the bugs
you can find the patches so they do not have to be redone for the specific
version. Updates are up to whom ever uses the packages. I have met my
responsibility with regard to the GPL.

Personally I give a lot to the OSS world. I should spend more time on
paying work so I can understand where this developer is coming from. Each
person has to decide for themself where they stand. But if you do work on
a GPL product the GPL has to be followed IMHO. This developer has told me
that once a consortium has paid for it we are free to follow the GPL and
release the code back to the various package maintainer. It will then be
up to the individual maintainers of the packages to do with it
accordingly.

So that is why I made the offer to put together a group to pay this
developer, that way we can get what we need and submit it back to the
various packages.

Many of the package maintainers do have access via my machines to test and
fix SCO OS related problems. I did request that my machines be use free
only for GPL SW. I expect that if someone is going to be making money
they should pay for access to the enviroments. On my web site there are
form that will allow OSS people to use my machines. I have had many
people remove their accounts after the law suit and no longer support the
SCO OS's in direct reply to the law suit.
