SCO "auditing" will not reveal information
about disks in the system logs?
That would be quite handy for actually
using mknod/mkdev without docs.

System auditing has nothing do do with adding disks.
In short, you run 'mkdev hd', link a new kernel, reboot, and run 'mkdev
hd' again.
