On OSR6 w/mp2, is there any reason not to remove java 1.4.2 [Java 2
Standard Edition (J2SE) - 1.4.2 (ver 1.4.2La) as described by custom]
before installing the java.5.0_upd6 update?
You should *not* remove java 1.4.2. Apparently, the Apache software
is hardcoded to use that verison of Java.
The release notes for java.5.0_upd6 do say this:
"Other applications such as Apache/Tomcat invoke the version of Java
either by the absolute installation path or through a setting of an
environment variable."
But neither /etc/rc2.d/P90apache nor /etc/rc2.d/S95docview reference
any such environ variables and a strings of the files under
/usr/lib/apache and /usr/lib/docview turns up no references to
/opt/java2-1.4.2. There are references to /usr/java however which is
supposed to be a symlink to the active version of java.
Have you tried removing it and found there were problems?
