You might have some trouble with VMware on a prereleaseUbuntu-- the
drivers may need to be ported or at least rebuilt. This is stuff that
would be trivial for someone with appropriate experience, but could seem
like a major obstacle if you're just getting started with both Linux and
VMware. I would recommend the released 7.04 "Feisty Fawn" for your
evaluation purposes.

3GB is "enough" memory depending on what you intend to do. For testing
replacement of old OSR5 systems with 64MB RAM, it's way plenty. For
hosting Windows Vista, maybe not so good.

I know I'm taking chances on 7.10. I have a friend who did it today-
installed vmware server onUbuntu7.10. Supposedly he's going to write
a how-to! He sent me a screen shot of running his Windows AutoCad on
top ofUbuntu7.10 (I passedUbuntudisease to him). He is going nuts
over it. I am amazed at theUbuntudevelopment machine and
organization. They are viral and fast! Updates every few hours. I
thinkUbuntumay be the start of Gaia takeover of all IT on the
planet. We are soon-to-be Borg. He also said server was much faster
than workstation.

I hope this is the right place to post this question.

I just started using uBuntu 7.10 at home and looking to see if I can
get it to be replacements for thin clients hanging off a SCO
OpenServer. I can telnet from my home uBuntu machine to my SCO
OpenServer machine but I need to tweek my terminfo/termcap files on my
uBuntu box so the screens work and not garbeled and the function keys
work.

The app on my SCO OpenServer requires me to emulate the SCO Ansi
console with the TERM=ansi for the app to work correctley.
