I've inherited a 7yr old 5.0.6 system.  It's in Intel server with a Mylex

I want to duplicate this system on a newer platform.  I use Lone-Tar for
backup.

Since you'll be running new hardware, I'd recommend an upgrade to 507,
if not SCO OSR6.
If you have SCO Enterprise, you may not need Lone-tar to move your
data over, use
the network instead.  But it will come in handy to protect your data
once you've made the move.
So you'll want an upgrade for that, as well, if you're not current.

What is the best way to convert to a newer/different RAID controller?  Load
a new OS, restore everything but /stand and /unix and then reconfigure the
odd device that doesn't work?

Upgrading an os is best done by installing the os on a clean slate.
I'd recommend copying the entire contents of the existing system to a
new
directory on the new system, say /SCO506.  If you use Lone-tar to
restore from a master
tape, be sure  to do it relative to this new directory, and to use the
option
to adjust sym links to that new directory.  This way, you'll be able
to find
configuration files where you'd expect to see them, but prefixed by /
SCO506, and as they are currently configured, as opposed to having a
bunch of links to the new
/var/opt/K/SCO/Unix/....        This should help as you configure the
odd device that
doesn't work.

How many users and printers do you have, and what applications do you
run?

Has anyone tried virtualizing this to a Xen environment on a
contemporary operating system? I'm planning on testing this within the
next 2 weeks as I migrate some systems off of SCO.
