Re: osr 5.0.7 sendmail stopped working

I did it for 2 reasons

first I was receiving warnings about missing symbolic links which led me to
the custom fix

secondly, after a reboot, a few weird things started happening that looked
like permission issues, including a file system that would not mount until I
recreated the directory it mounted under

I eventually discovered that root had full read/write permissions, and once
I chmod'd it, all was well again.

I think my missing links problem has to do with cups. I use ghostscript in
an application, and have discovered I can only make it work if cups is
installed (else it complains about missing libs). However, with cups
installed, I can't set up remote lpd printers. As a result, each time I add
a remote printer, I uninstall cups, add the printer, and reinstall cups. A
major rectal pain that does not occur with my Unixware 7 installs.

After having custom verify and fix System files - sendmail no longer
works -
see below:

# sh P86sendmail start
451 4.0.0 /usr/lib/sendmail.cf: line 90: fileclass: cannot open
'/usr/lib/mail/local-host-names': World writable directory
451 4.0.0 /usr/lib/sendmail.cf: line 108: fileclass: cannot open
'/usr/lib/uucp/Systems': World writable directory
451 4.0.0 /usr/lib/sendmail.cf: line 133: fileclass: cannot open
'/usr/lib/mail/domains': World writable directory

I see no issues with permissions on those files - they do not have write
permission under other nor do their parent directories.

What could be causing this problem??

Did something happen to prompt you to let custom verify & fix System
files?
Which verify option did you choose (hopefully not strict db compliance)?

(I trust you have a full, verified backup of the root fs, because you may
have
other problems that have have not yet reared their head.)

From my working 5.0.7 system:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jun 21 2003
/usr/lib/mail/local-host-names
-rw------- 1 uucp uucp 4375 Oct 16 2003
/usr/lib/uucp/Systems@
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jun 21 2003
/usr/lib/mail/domains

What are your perms for these files? What are the perms for the root
directory / ,
/usr , /usr/lib , /usr/lib/uucp and /usr/lib/mail ?

drwxr-xr-x 33 root bin 1536 Dec 21 14:48 /
drwxrwxr-x 60 root auth 2048 Oct 9 15:06 /usr
drwxr-xr-x 86 bin bin 27136 Sep 13 2006 /usr/lib
dr-xr-xr-x 4 uucp uucp 1536 Sep 13 2006 /usr/lib/uucp
drwxr-xr-x 2 bin bin 512 Jul 27 2006 /usr/lib/mail
