Dear friends,
Many thanks for the many answers received.
I asked a similar question before to this/another group, because I was
receiving limitations with awk usage, and after taking this current
thread into account and applying what you recommended, I am left again
with the error:
awk: cannot have more than 1024 fields.
I cannot run another version of awk (dont even ask!)
I cant install anything on this box either :(
Original idea:
Was to grab about 8 fields from each line in a file with (minimum) 350
lines, where each line has a minimum of 70 fields and write these
fields a different file (for reports later).
Perhaps I should've asked "how do I do this" to begin with ?! ;)
I am one to try and try again until I "cant" continue, best way to
learn imho.
Apologies for wasting everyones time, I simply need to extract this
info ...
Peace,
g.
