xterm has a lighter feel to it than konsole so i may be using it

What is it that S-F3 does in in vim in a konsole, and doesn't do in
xterm?
i have S-F3 mapped to :qall<CR> in my .vimrc -- it enters ex mode,
puts
Hmm. Emacs reads S-F3 as S-F5 in an xterm.
F5 or F15? The latter latter makes more sense looking at the terminfo.
F1 to F12 generate the first 12 function keys, then Shift F1 to Shift
F12 generate F13 to F24.
Back to the OP's problems, does choosing 'Old Function Keys' from the
"Main" menu help (Ctrl-Left button) help?
YES! apparently i have old keys :)
now to find that as a commandline option...
xterm -xrm '*oldXtermFKeys: true'
or set it up directly using ~/.Xdefaults or ~/.Xresources or whatever
file you load using xrdb when you start X.
finally discovered that my -kt vt220 caused the oldXtermFKeys resource
string to be ineffective and fail quietly
i think we're there -- thank you Icarus!
