Scripting crontab

Hello,

I am looking for ways to script crontab editing.

I have tried setting the VISUAL variable to the name of an ed (and later expect) script, before running 'crontab -e', as suggested by someone on StackOverflow (I think that's where it was), but to no avail: the crontab didn't get modified.

Any suggestions?
